I am tired of the whole Walker Wisconsin thing but one good thing has come of it- education is now at the forefront of the media and people's attention. However, people are focusing on unions and money for schools which is both good and bad. We really need to focus on fixing education, but the problem is, even now we just propose to stop cutting funding, throwing more money at schools, paying teachers more (all of of which I'm not opposed) but we aren't offering solutions other than more money. The problem is, that is not the solution.
I remember in my statistics course, the acronym GIGO- Garbage in, Garbage Out. If we keep doing the same things in education that have yet to work, they will simply not work. If we keep shoveling the same garbage lessons, methods, tests, textbooks at the students, they will merely regurgitate the same garbage back. Garbage in, Garbage Out.
And to quote Einstein, "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."
